In the first public concert of the PolyU Orchestra under the baton of Artistic Director & Conductor, Mr Leung Kin-fung, the Orchestra will perform Tchaikovsky’s iconic Swan Lake Suite. Ms Nancy Loo, whose passionate pursuit in music has garnered her the Hong Kong Arts Development Council’s Artist of the Year 2016, will be performing Schumann’s Piano Concerto in this concert.

The 1951 Oscars Best Picture winner An American in Paris, inspired by George Gershwin’s original composition is brought back to life by the PolyU Orchestra in its debut concert at Shenzhen Concert Hall. Alumni and staff soloists Howard Fong and Professor Brian King are also set to perform two magnificent concerto excerpts, the all-time Chinese favourite The Butterfly Lovers’ Violin Concerto and Mozart’s Bassoon Concerto, capping off the Orchestra’s performance in one of the acoustically finest concert halls in South-East Asia.

PolyU Orchestra is thrilled to announce their exciting performance in November 2017. Co-presented by the Hong Kong Generation Next Arts Music Festival, legendary Chinese pianist Yin Cheng-zong will perform his very own Yellow River Piano Concerto, as well as Mozart’s Piano Concerto K. 488 with the PolyU Orchestra under the direction of its Artistic Director and Conductor, Mr Leung Kin-fung.

The Yellow River Concerto has great significance in the Chinese classical music repertoire. Originating from the Yellow River Cantata by Mr Xian Xinghai, a team of musicians including Mr Yin Cheng-zong have rearranged the cantata into a four-movement Piano Concerto.

“My Motherland” – Celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the Establishment of the HKSAR

The PolyU Orchestra opened the celebratory event with the vocalists Ms Gong Shuang (龔爽), the winner of the 10th Chinese Golden Bell Award for Folk Music Vocal Competition, Dr Lisa Cheung Chung Lai-seung, JP (張鐘麗裳), renowned tenor Mr Wu Liren(吳立人) and Dr Huang Yuen Yuen (黃元元) by performing the Pearl of the Orient (東方之珠) in the orchestral version.

PolyU Orchestra also kicked off the 2nd half of the celebratory performance by playing the Mozart's overture from "The Abduction from the Seraglio" with a dazzling taste of alla Turca style. It was a star-studded event to share the joy of the 20th Anniversary of the HKSAR.

An exchange concert with the Macao Youth Symphony Orchestra at the St Dominic’s Church (Macao Rose Hall), a heritage site of Macao, was held on 21 May 2017. This was a wonderful opportunity for members of our orchestra to get together for this meaningful exchange concert in one of the most important cultural heritage sites of Macao. The halls of this historic monument reverberated with the wonderful music presented by the two orchestras and the concert attained a full-house.

We are delighted to share with you that The Hong Kong Polytechnic University Orchestra delivered a captivating performance at the PolyU 80th Anniversary Launch Ceremony – A Prelude to the Celebrations on 25 November 2016 (Friday). The performance of Brahms’ Academic Festival Overture, Op. 80 by The PolyU Orchestra under the baton of Mr Leung Kin-fung, Artistic Director and Conductor of the Orchestra, made a superb opening for the performance.
